Arrive at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco’s largest city and economic hub. After settling into your hotel, spend the afternoon exploring the Hassan II Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world with its stunning oceanfront setting and intricate Moroccan craftsmanship. Take a stroll along the Corniche, browse the shops in the old medina, and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant sampling fresh seafood or traditional Moroccan dishes. This is a relaxed day to recover from travel and get a first taste of Morocco before heading further afield.

Depart Casablanca in the morning and drive inland toward the Middle Atlas Mountains. Pass through Rabat’s outskirts and the university town of Fes region before climbing into cooler, forested terrain around Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and pine forests. Continue through Azrou, where you may catch sight of wild Barbary macaques in the cedar woods, before arriving in Midelt by late afternoon. Known as the gateway to the High Atlas and the Ziz Valley, Midelt is a quiet town famous for its apple orchards and nearby mineral mines. Overnight here to break up the long journey south and prepare for tomorrow’s push toward the desert.

Leave Midelt and begin the dramatic descent through the Ziz Gorges, where the road winds along cliffside switchbacks offering sweeping views over the valley below. Follow the Ziz Valley south, passing dense palm groves, traditional kasbahs, and small oasis towns as the landscape gradually turns to desert. Stop in Erfoud or Rissani for lunch and a glimpse of local fossil workshops before continuing to Merzouga at the edge of Erg Chebbi. Set off toward the Dades Valley, driving through Tinghir and stopping at the breathtaking Todra Gorge, where sheer rock walls rise up to 300 meters on either side of a narrow canyon carved by a mountain river — a perfect place for a short walk or photo stop. Visit Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage kasbah built of rammed earth that has featured in numerous films and series, including Game of Thrones. From there, cross the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass, taking in panoramic mountain views and passing traditional Berber villages, before descending into Marrakech by evening. Check into your riad and enjoy dinner in the vibrant Red City.

Spend your final morning exploring Marrakech’s highlights: get lost in the bustling souks of the medina, visit the ornate Bahia Palace, and admire the Koutoubia Mosque, the city’s most recognizable landmark. If time permits, unwind at the Jardin Majorelle, a tranquil garden of exotic plants and cobalt-blue buildings. Enjoy a farewell Moroccan lunch, perhaps a classic tagine or couscous, before transferring to Marrakech Menara Airport for your departure flight, bringing your journey through Morocco to a memorable close.
